ABOUT THE Culinary Skills program

Designed for students in Grades 6–8, the SmartChefsKids Culinary Skills Program introduces young chefs to practical cooking techniques through fun, hands-on learning. Students strengthen their skills in food preparation, measuring, following recipes, kitchen safety, teamwork, creativity, and healthy food choices while building confidence and independence in the kitchen.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN

CULINARY FOUNDATIONS

Students learn essential cooking techniques, proper measuring, ingredient preparation, recipe reading, and how to follow multi-step recipes with confidence.

KITCHEN SAFETY & SANITATION

Students practice proper handwashing, food safety, safe use of age-appropriate kitchen tools, workspace organization, and responsible cleanup habits.

MEASURING & RECIPE SKILLS

Students strengthen their understanding of measuring cups, measuring spoons, fractions, portions, ingredient quantities, and following recipes from beginning to end.

FOOD PREPARATION & COOKING TECHNIQUES

Students explore age-appropriate food preparation techniques including mixing, chopping with appropriate tools, seasoning, assembling, cooking, and presentation

HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES

Students explore balanced meals, ingredients, portions, and ways to prepare flavorful foods while making thoughtful food choices.

CREATIVITY, TEAMWORK & CONFIDENCE

Students work together to complete recipes, solve problems, communicate, share responsibilities, and express creativity through cooking and food presentation.

CULINARY FOUNDATIONS

Students strengthen essential culinary skills through hands-on experiences with kitchen safety, measuring, food preparation, cooking techniques, and proper use of kitchen tools.

CONFIDENCE & CREATIVITY

Students build confidence in the kitchen while exploring flavors, preparing recipes, making thoughtful food choices, and expressing creativity through hands-on cooking experiences.

TEAMWORK & LIFE SKILLS

Students develop teamwork, communication, responsibility, organization, and problem-solving skills while working together in the kitchen. These practical skills support independence both in and beyond the classroom.
